Born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Yami graduated from Abbott Lawrence Academy in 2022, received her Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law in May 2026, and plans to receive her Master's degree in Public Administration at Merrimack College in May 2027. While in college, Yami was a Resident Advisor and served as the President of the Latinx organization (ALMA). Yami started her work with youth at Andover Bread Loaf, where she worked as a Writing Leader and as their Spoken Word Fellow. She now serves as the Youth Coordinator and Leadership Organizer, where she teaches Lawrence youth about advocacy and serving the community through workshops and networking.
